Beagle Channel

The Basics

Most travelers experience this part of the world on multi-day cruises from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas in Chile, and it’s also a fantastic location for whale watching and spotting glaciers (the area is nicknamed Glacier Alley). Those based in Ushuaia can experience the channel in multiple ways; paddle a canoe from Lapataia Bay, sail through on a sightseeing cruise by yacht or catamaran, or explore some of the islands, including rocky islets known for their nesting seabirds or Seal Island.

Perfect experience for a short trip
This trip was perfect. After finding the group easily at the end of the main pier. We entered a small ship, than we made our way through the beagle channel. The guide and skipper followed all our questions and wishes. We can highly recommend. PERFECT We could even see wales.

Beagle Channel and Sea Lions Island Catamaran Cruise
I am very keen on this tour as I was able to learn and visit the historical Beagle Channel.... what I would add to this activity is some meal or snack to be included as part of the fare. The diverse islands are shown and commented in a friendly manner and there is plenty of printed material in the ship to be read and seen. The local supplier makes this tour a good deal for the visitors.

Beagle Channel and Seal Island Catamaran Tour from Ushuaia
Very good image of Beagle Channel and interesting tour. Ushuaia is one of the most exciting view from cataraman. Profesional guide and pick-up on time. The price could be better if you have time to book on sea shore.

Canoeing Adventure on the Beagle Channel and Penguin Colony from Ushuaia
One of the absolute best tours we've ever taken! The guides were amazing. We learned so much from them about the history of Gable Island. The lunch was incredible. The canoeing, the penguins, the hike- all of it felt like we were in a dream. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone once the world reopens again (we were their last tour before the world shut down).

Beagle Channel navigation with mini trekking by Patagonia Explorer
Excellent. The visit to the islands was well organised. The guide was excellent and took a great deal of time to explain in both English and Spanish. The skipper managed to approach the wildlife so closely that we obtained superb photos. He showed great skill in controlling the boat so close to the rocks. There was also the opportunity to see humpback whales which a wonderful added bonus. The whole trip was entertaining and memorable. Muchas Gracias.

Canoeing Adventure on the Beagle Channel and Penguin Colony from Ushuaia
This was a terrific tour! We saw many penguins up close and experienced the beautiful scenery of Tierra del Fuego. The guides were a lot of fun, very friendly and knowledgeable. After paddling in the Beagle Channel in chilly and gusty winds the guides prepared a delicious lunch while we warmed up and sipped wine in the hut! Thanks for making our short stay in Ushuaia a wonderful experience.

The Lighthouse (Not Quite) at the End of the World

Many tours through the Beagle Channel include a visit to Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, sometimes called the Lighthouse at the End of the World. While the photogenic lighthouse certainly feels far enough from civilization to warrant the nickname, the title actually applies to a lighthouse on Isla de los Estados.
